Be you a fan club, an organiser, or just a lone fan, there is something for all of you at TrekCon. So what is TrekCon and what can it do for you? It will help to explain TrekCons philosophy, or goals, before answering that.
Attending a convention is a bit like a spectator sport. You buy your tickets, arrive at the allocated time, sit next to some stranger and watch all the action. Sure you'll probably talk to the people around you and maybe there will be some events organised that you can get involved with, rather than just watch. However at the end of the day you are still just a spectator and you'll probably never see that person you were sitting next to again. TrekCon aims to add a more social, or personal, aspect to attending a convention. It does this by providing a medium that allows you to get in contact with people who are going to the same convention BEFORE it begins. You can meet up, have a few drinks, maybe have lunch or dinner or even make plans to do something away from the convention. So instead of attending a convention with a bunch of strangers, you can go with friends, even if you have never seen their faces before.
So now you know why TrekCon exists, this is what TrekCon can do to help you achieve those goals. Find a convention in your area using the integrated search function. Join the forum and let the world know which convention you are attending. Find other people who are going and make plans to meet up. Keep up with news about your convention from the organisers themselves or fellow fans. While you are waiting for the convention to start, you can have a chat with your new friends in the chat room. When it's all over come back to TrekCon and tell everyone all about it, post your photographs, and keep in contact with your new friends.
Don't worry if you are not planning on going to a convention anytime soon. You are still welcome at TrekCon and there is still a lot for you to do. You can talk about all your favourite shows in the forum or chat room. You can search for a fan club in your area and get involved with local events. You can even buy sci-fi / fantasy goods in the online store.
So far only the forum and chatrooms are open for business. The gallery is in beta testing and should be open soon. The shop will come but as TrekCon does not exist to make money, it is low on the priority. Ultimately TrekCon exists to serve the needs of convention goers and organisers alike and will change to suit those needs.
So come along and visit us here at TrekCon. We look forward to hearing from you and would love to catch up with you at a convention sometime soon.
